Our homeschool is generally eclectic, pulling different styles of curriculum for different sources as needed to fit the needs of each of my children. Within our eclectic homeschool style, we lean heavily into literature and the classical method especially in the grammar/elementary years.
When we had the opportunity to read a new book and use the accompanying study guide, it fit right into our schedule! We had a great time reading The Story of Ping and working through The Story About Ping Study Guide by Progeny Press.
Reading great literature books and classics with our children is priceless, but a study guide really adds an element of fulfillment you might not get otherwise. The Story About Ping Study Guide helped us dive into fun project ideas, provided links to historical and cultural information, and included Scriptural references when studying comprehension of the text.
The Story About Ping Study Guide by Progeny Press includes:
- Guided help on studying ducks.
- Hands-on projects and information links about China.
- Plenty of vocabulary and comprehension.
- Biblical references that relate to the story.
- Lots of suggested activities to keep your child learning and having fun!
There are countless other study guides offered by Progeny Press on their website! You can also purchase the accompanying book/novel as well. Literature that is recommended for high school will also earn your child high school credits. 4 completed novels and study guides will earn them 1 high school English Literature credit.
The Story About Ping Study Guide is a digital download or E-guide. I printed mine off and bound it with a binding machine we own. It worked perfectly. You can also easily keep it in a 3-ring binder or file folder.
The Story About Ping is a perfect read-aloud with your elementary age children. For us, we used The Story About Ping Study Guide together and I helped my 2nd and 4th graders with projects and reading through the comprehension questions. For older students, the book/novel readings and study guide questions can be done independently. These study guides follow the books chronologically from beginning to end, so there’s not jumping around.
Using The Story About Ping Study Guide led to great discussions with my children as we researched things about China and looked at maps to find the Yangtze River. My favorite thing about this study guide with the biblical references and talking with my kids about how God is present everywhere, even in stories!
