I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’m always looking for a good homeschool science curriculum! So, when I find a STEAM science kit that also has online videos, I am SO in for a try! Our family was thrilled to be able to try out the Ocean Ventures kit from STEAM4KIDZ this summer, it was a blast!
Disclosure: I received this complimentary product through the Homeschool Review Crew. I was not paid to write this review but asked to give an honest critique. I pray it is helpful and beneficial to all who read it!
When you’re looking for an “open and go” style kit, this one will meet your needs! Not only is it open and go, but it is also a curriculum that can be done independently 🙂 The video does all the teaching for you! Below we posted our unboxing video, so you can see all that is inside:
Inside you’ll find:
- 5 individual project kits packaged will all materials inside.
- 1 special kit of supplies you can use with all project kits.
- Colorful description cards for each project kit, laminated and sturdy.
- A sturdy plastic work mat.
- Instructions for parents and kids on how to access the online video lessons.
- Everything carefully wrapped and organized!
I can’t tell you how thrilled my 2nd grade daughter was to receive this box 🙂 She absolutely loves crafts and hands on activities, so this steam science kit was perfect for her. I felt that her age (7) was also just right for following along with the video alone.
These projects are not your simple and easy variety. They are well thought out and require some detail of the student. For her, it was just enough of a challenge that she didn’t feel defeated and go accomplish something really cool all on her own! (Happy mom smile)
The first project she chose was a clay coral reef. Inside the kit bag, everything she needed was included. We had a great work mat in the kit as well. I set up our iPad on the kitchen table, and she excitedly got all the clay and supplies laid out. I let her start watching the video by herself, showing her that she can pause it while she works and restart when she’s ready to move on. She completed the entire project in under an hour!
Other projects include a map of the ocean floor, a starfish windchime, shark tooth and jellyfish projects. Each is unique, and each is super fun! Here’s a little more of the unboxing:
Your family can get STEAM4KIDZ kits either individually or sign up for a subscription for all their fun boxes! These are perfect for kids between the ages of 6-12 🙂
The projects are great, but I love how it encourages kids to take them on independently. The videos are fun to watch and easy to follow. It gave my 7-year-old ownership of her project, and she had that much more fun accomplishing something on her own.
Other great kits from STEAM4KIDZ:
- Starry Night Kit
- Galactic Adventures Kit
- Mini-Theater Kit
We had a great experience using Ocean Ventures kit over the summer and I will be keeping the other kits as options as our year goes on! Thank you, Homeschool Review Crew!
